Permanent bamboo structures are not successful if the bamboo is not properly harvested, treated against insects and dried. Although there is an abundance of bamboo (Bambusa Vulgaris) in Jamaica, this material is not often used to build permanent infrastructure. In this theoretical and hands-on workshop and assessment study we investigated and disseminated information on methods of harvesting, treating and drying bamboo that are available locally and are suitable to the local conditions.
